Veterans Day ...

"At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, we remember ..."

Veterans Day is the day we
celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans who have served our country. So when we remember and honor the men and women of our Armed Forces, we must also remember "Man's Best Friend", who has served our nation with distinction. Many of our service men and women owe their lives to the bravery and sacrifice of these animals. These dogs are trained to serve our country and mankind ... and they perform like heroes.

So this Veterans Day, when we say THANK YOU to all of those who are serving, or have served, our country and protected our freedoms, don't forget to think of our Military Canines! ♥

Don't Forget to Fall Back ...

Daylight Saving time ends Sunday 11/03 at 2:00am  ... don't forget to "fall behind" and set your clocks back 1 hour before you go to bed Saturday night!

Also, when you turn your clocks back tonight, please check your smoke alarm batteries too — and if it’s been a year since you changed them, install fresh ones.

Here’s another lifesaver: there’s a date on your smoke alarms, usually located right by the battery compartment. If it’s 10 years ago or more, go buy new alarms. They’re only made to last about 10 years, and you don’t want to find out the hard way that they’re too old to operate correctly. :0(

Sure going to enjoy that extra hour of sleep tomorrow morning!  Zzzzzz ...

Boxer Pumpkin-Carving Stencil ...

Matilda is a 5-month-old flashy fawn boxer ... she's a total clown.
She loves all people, especially children.
-- Aynsley Starbuck, Matilda's owner

Free Pumpkin-Carving Stencils of Favorite Dog Breeds
 from Better Homes & Gardens

Let your friends and neighbors know which dog breed is best by carving a pumpkin that looks like your favorite canine [Boxers, of course!].

Your dog is the best dog in the world, right? So show the world how much you care about Max or Buddy or Molly or Princess by carving a pumpkin with his or her likeness. The American Kennel Club's list of top breeds inspired this series of pumpkin-carving stencils.

How to use:

Start by cleaning out the pumpkin, scraping the flesh thinnest in the region in which you'll carve the design. Attach the pattern (enlarged on a photocopier) to the pumpkin with tape. Use a pin to make closely spaced pin pricks along the stencil lines, piercing the paper. Remove the pattern. Cut completely through solid lines (as shown on the stencil), but only peel away the skin within the dotted lines to enhance features.

*** Please post a pic when you are done ... it would be fun to see everyone's pumpkins ***
(make sure to include your Boxer in the pic too, of course!).

Circovirus in Dogs ...

Circovirus in Dogs

A disease normally found in pigs, Circovirus has recently been found in dogs in California and Ohio ... resulting in several deaths. All the dogs in Ohio were all boarders at the same boarding facility.

Authorities advise that direct contact with an infected dog or its vomit or diarrhea would present a higher risk of infection. Viruses can be spread from animal to animal through the use of shared bedding and equipment.

"Dog owners should be cautious of where they go with their dogs ...  don’t go to where a lot of strange dogs are, with unknown vaccination history, because we don’t know who’s carrying this thing and who’s shedding this thing.”

Symptoms include:

- Vomiting
- Bloody diarrhea
- Lethargy
- Foaming at the mouth
- Vasculitis (red spots/patches/skin lesions)
- Rapid worsening of their symptoms

Prompt veterinary attention is key to long term survival and recovery.
